VSN Steels is a family business established in 1961. We have occupied our present site since 1969. VSN (Steels) Ltd is an industry-leading steel profiler and surface grinder.

Situated in the shadow of Spaghetti Junction, we are afforded easy access to the motorway network enabling us to deliver nationwide, as well as locally, on our own fleet of vehicles. The cutting machines, grinders, millers and furnace are all under one roof, giving us complete control over all processes, and versatility second to none.
With over 3000 tonnes of material in stock at our dedicated stockyard, we are in a position to offer a very quick turn round on a range of steel specifications and sizes up to 42 tonnes individual piece weight. We have three remote controlled overhead cranes, incorporating the very latest in fail-safe permanent lifting magnets. We can lift up to 42 tonnes forklift – 32 tonnes piece weight overhead and can load our machines quickly and safely.
Cutting thick material is one of our specialities. We cater for customers in the trade or end users, and offer them both the same reliable service either for complete supply or Free Issue cutting:-
- Maximum thickness 600 mm
- Ultrasonic testing (before & after cutting)
- Laboratory facilities
- Shot blasting and painting
Mechanical and Charpy tests either as an upgrade or complement to mill analysis certificates. All blanks are dressed before final inspection and dispatch. Any customers special requirements such as stamping, drilling, shot blasting, painting etc. can all be catered for. Completed orders will usually be palletised and shrink wrapped. Our six Lumsden grinders can grind to a tolerance of ±O.1mm up to a maximum of 2150 mm dia., and when combined with the high stock removal rates possible in our milling section, lead times can be dramatically reduced. Maximum size on the millers is 2100 mm x 1200 mm and we can offer an edge machining service.
Our highly efficient gas fired Bogie Hearth furnace capacity 3200 mm x 2600mm x 1830 mm can carry up to 16 tonnes to a maximum temperature of 1000 ‘C. It is fired daily either to stress relieve, normalise, anneal or pre-heat our own or customer’s material. Honeywell chart printer/programmer takes care of any heat chart requirements.
All of our cutting programmes are generated through the CAD package, incorporating Autonest, Profile Management, and Remnant Control. Enabling us to cost jobs very accurately and to plan cutting programmes quickly and efficiently, thus controlling lead times.
We have seven CNC cutting machines the maximum machine size being 16 metres x 3 metres.
